Kill Phone Calls and Texts – TIP

When you goto a movie, do you prefer the actor writes a joke on paper and holds it up to the camera OR tells it to another character?

Get rid of phone calls and phone texts in your comic scripts.

If they’re critical to the narrative, keep these in mind;

  • Make them highly emotional.
  • Make them extremely brief.

or

  • showcase the character in the middle of something very interesting.

Panels of characters talking on the phone become talking head showcases. Phone texts don’t capture the human experience and they focus on technology—technology gets outdated quickly.
